where dL is change in length, L is original length, a is the CTE, and dT

is the change in temp.

If we look at typical steel, the CTE is roughly 17.3ppm/C. dT is 20C, and
L would be 13m. This gives an overall change of (13)(20)(17.3E-6), or
4.498mm
